Operational update, May 2023
The annual planned shutdown of the Cornwall energy recovery centre (CERC) will soon be taking place. This is to allow for routine inspections and maintenance of the plant.
We will do this in a phased approach, closing one line on Monday 8 May whilst the second line continues to run until the middle of the month. Both lines will then be shutdown to allow for maintenance on shared systems and will then be brought back into service in early June.
When we re-start each line, low pressure steam will be released through the roof vents during the re-start process, which may be visible.
Once the facility is back to full operation and producing the required steam quality, the turbine will be restarted to allow electricity to be exported again.
When the turbine is restarted there is a further potential for steam to be released. As such, people in the local area may see steam coming from the facility at intervals accompanied by low level noise as the steam is released. In advance of this we will send you a further update to forewarn you of the potential for some minor disturbance. This will also appear in the news section of our website.
St Dennis Community Emergency Plan
St Dennis Parish Council are drafting a Community Emergency Plan for the Parish. We hope this will never be needed but in the event of major disruption to the village such as extensive flooding, heavy snow or severe storm damage, there is a possibility that emergency services could be delayed or stretched to capacity, so we want to make sure that the community is prepared. Our aim is to ensure that we are able to deal with any such event, and whilst we can sit down and draft everything out on paper, we need help from you, the community, that could potentially be affected, to help us carry out these plans. We are looking for volunteers to form a response team and to help us canvas to ensure that the plan is robust, workable and practical. Would you be able to give up some of your free time to assist in this important project? If your answer is yes, please contact the Parish Council office. Any help would be most welcome.
