Join our vibrant Team and become a Councillor.

Are you enthusiastic about our community? Do you want to make a real difference where you live? If so, we are looking for enthusiastic residents like you to join our dynamic team of Councilors on St Dennis Parish Council.

What We Do :As a Parish Councillor you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our Parish, from managing local assets like parks, bus shelters, public toilets to representing the views of our residents on planning applications, your input will directly impact the quality of life in our village and surrounding areas. Remember the residents of the Parish are at the heart of everything we do!

How To Join: Joining our team is easier than you think! Whether through co-option or election, Councils welcome residents who meet certain criteria, including being over 18 years of age, a local elector, and having a genuine commitment to our community.

Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for candidacy, you must be over eighteen, a British Commonwealth or European citizen, registered as a local elector, and have lived worked or owned property in the parish for at least a year. Certain restrictions also apply, such as not having been bankrupt within the last five years or convicted of certain offences. Further information can be found at The Electoral Commission.

Election Process: Elections are held every four years and usually take place on the first Thursday in May. If you are interested in running for office, you will need to complete an application pack and submit it to the designated Registration Office for verification and registration. All the instructions and a timetable of events are included with the election pack. Once nominated your candidacy becomes public and you can start your campaign to engage with voters who share your vision.

Filling a Casual Vacancy: Casual vacancies arise for various reasons and when they do a ‘Notice of Vacancy’ is displayed in the Parish as soon as it is practicable after the vacancy occurs. This offers the opportunity for residents to call for a by-election. This notice must be published for 14 working days and if a by-election is not called the vacancy may be filled by the Council through co-option.

Co-option Process: In cases where vacancies arise, Councillors may be appointed through co-option. Simply express you interest in writing to the Office; it is helpful to attend a few meetings to get acquainted with the Councilors and how the Council operates. At a Council meeting you will then be provided with an opportunity to introduce yourself and give a brief outline as to why you wish to join the council, a vote is then taken on your appointment.

What’s Expected: Once you are on board you will be part of a supportive environment where your voice truly matters. Whether you are a seasoned pro or new to local government, we provide training, guidance, and ongoing support to help you excel in your role.

Still Unsure? We understand that taking on a new role can be daunting, but rest assured, there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to being a Councillor. We value diversity and welcome individuals from all walks of life. Your unique skills, passion, and energy are what will drive positive change for our community.

Ready To Make a Difference? If you are ready to roll up your sleeves and get involved, we would love to hear from you! Join us in building a brighter future for St Dennis Parish.
